Owl lamp

Post  cadking on Mon Jun 01, 2009 12:27 pm

I think we have talked about this style lamp before, but I could not find the discussion. There is a small owl that holds a small candle (not a Clarke style candle) that locks into the base. I have only seen white glazed versions of this lamp before, but on ebay right now is a life like painted version. The link to the lamp is:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fshop.ebay.com%3A80%2F%3F_from%3DR40%26_trksid%3Dp3907.m38.l1313%26_nkw%3D310145924005%26_sacat%3DSee-All-Categories%26_fvi%3D1&item=310145924005&_rdc=1&viewitem=&salenotsupported

Just thought I would pass it along.

Now another paint style has been offered. While R-364 is white porcelain, the second was painted more realistic, this one has a Lusterware Glaze that looks golden brown. There seems to be several paint variations of this lamp. The link is:

Take a look

The underglaze "HB" on this Owl has me a bit concerned about this variation.

Off topic:

The Search Tool does not seem to find "Owl".......it does, however, find other search terms. Curious!!

It is hard to tell from the photo, but I suspect the mark is over glaze, and both the mark and colored lustre were added by an amateur china painter after it left the factory.
