Burmese - New Butterfly Design
Well, as promised, I wanted to let you know about the Butterfly fairy lamp. It is indeed an original design and I am inclined to identify it as Webb/Barbe design No 3123 - Periwinkle. I know of one other design like this on a fairy lamp and I will try to get photos for a comparison.
Since this is a rarely seen design, I plan to include a short article about it in the next Newsletter. If you have information to share of other examples of this design.....on any shape.....please pass it along.
Jim.

Burmese--New Desing
Jim,
This design, butterfly and periwinkle, can be found on the transferware of the 1880s. In fact, I am amazed at the similarity. Although in the monotones of the transferware it is, at times, referred to as a "moth." As today, a beauftiful design was "appropriated" for many different items. Thanks for all your research, hard work, and for sharing!

Yes, I also believe it to be a moth instead of a butterfly. And, with research done by Cadking, a specific moth that is partial to Periwinkle.
Can you help me with a further explantion of "transferware". I assumed this shade to be handpainted as with other Webb designs.
