Interesting Fairy Lamp Bases .... or not?

These are definitely ornate and interesting! I'm not certain that they are intended to be fairy lamp stands ... what do you think?

I don’t feel that these were designed to be fairy lamp bases originally. The top has a inside diameter of 3 1/8” which could fit a candle cup, however, they are not deep enough to set a candle cup into.
The other idea would be to use a shade without a candle cup. This would work as the average shade is about 3 1/8” in diameter, however, then the candle would sit right on the metal base, and there is no indentation to hold a candle. If you tried to move them while lit, the wax could also spill out between the metal pieces.
I don’t know what they were originally used for, but they sure would look great as pillar candle holders.
