Nailsea Epergne - Whatsit?

Well, just when you think you have seen it all......what do you think of this?

As I look at this item, several things pop out at me. The first is that the Nailsea bowls are made from clear red class with the white loops (see R-648), while the Clarke shade is made from opaque red glass with the white loops. The next is that the flower flutes have the common Webb berry prunts on the bottom (see R-681 & 682), as with their Burmese, but on the bottom of the bowls is a clear glass point (see R-776, 779,…). I have only seen a single lamp that used different style finishes or decorations like this one. The example R-787 with the round ball on the flower bowl and the dart on the lamp is the only one. But as I have an example in blue and citron of this lamp with darts on both pieces, makes me wonder if the lamp pictured in example R-787 has had work to repair a chip. This epergne could easily be made up from parts, as most epergnes used a standard size receiver around the base for the glass arm pieces. As I look at this piece, I would say at one time there were four Nailsea bowls around the base with something other than a lamp at the top. The top ring is made from small round stock rather than the ¼ round stock used on most other Clarke lamps. Again, this would be a great piece to look at in person before putting out the asking price. Is anyone going to Garrett, IN anytime soon?

One more thing I just noticed in the pictures is that the glass arms do not sit all the way down in the receivers due to the pin that is placed on the plaster cup that the arm is held by. In one of the photos, I can see one of the grooves for the pins is reflected in the mirror and is on the bottom. If the receiver is turned over as it should be, then the glass darts might hit the mirror, telling me that this is a compilation of pieces and would not have had the Nailsea bowls on this epergne originally.
