Clarke Cups with Holes

Post by cadking on Sun Aug 21, 2016 10:47 am

These two fairy lamps were recently placed on auction on eBay. Item numbers 172313553352 and 172313553348. The cups are unlike the common cups you typically see with the embossed lettering. The lettering is different as well as the feature I found most interesting. Both of the cups have a hole in the bottom that I believe is there for air movement for combustion. Take a look at the photo and give feedback.

I have also recently seen cups that have had holes drilled in them but that is because someone had electrified a Royal Worcester standard therefore making it eariler to pass the wire thru !
