Unsold Fairy Lamps

The following fairy lamps recieved no bids on eBay.


And, several others had very small offers for fairy lamps that had reserves.

The question is, of course, what do you think of the fairy lamp market? And, what is the best venue to sell your fairy lamps? eBay, live auction, private sales, etc.

I'm disenchanted with Ebay as a whole. It used to be fun and exciting. Was fun to watch who the bidders were. When a friend was bidding, you backed off. They would do the same if you wanted something. It was fun to see which members of the club were winning certain styles, etc. Sometimes a member would email you after winning a lamp and congratulate you. Sure cannot do that anymore with the tight reins that Ebay has implemented. The opening bids anymore are just a price that they will sell for. Not an auction as far as I'm concerned. You can get caught up in bidding and the excitement of maybe being the high bidder but not when the starting price is $160.00 or $300.00. Anymore, there are no bids for five day's on a piece until the last hour of an auction.

I love my ebay. I will agree that more sellers are starting their items at the high end of the price range, but if you want the item you might be willing to spend the extra money. I feel that over the last 5 to 10 years, ebay has help soften the prices on many things, not just lamps, since the items are offered to a wider group of buyers. I still think that ebay is a great sales tool as do most auction houses, if they didn’t they would not list the items on the site as well as selling live in their auction house. When I watch the live auctions, for the most part, the items are sold to a floor bidder because they have had the chance to see the item first hand and might be willing to go higher than an ebayer would. I also think that auction houses that have specialized auctions (like the one coming up that is so heavily discussed on this site) they have better luck than an individual selling one item at a time. More people that are interested in those items would be willing to travel to an auction that was going to have 20 items or more of what they collect, and probably spend more money doing it. If the auction wasn’t 3000 miles from my house, I would be there live and skip the added buyers’ premium for bidding over the internet, but the cost I’m saving on airfare can be used to pay the premium as well as shipping.

I use to like ebay, but since Art and Artist keep getting the run around with ebay, I am not happy with them.

I love fairy lamps but I am afraid they are burried with hundrends of other auctions and people are just not seeing them to bid. I have a hard time finding lamp auctions.

What I can't understand, is that the red Nailsea didn't sell at auction for the $165.00, but he turn around and lists the same lamp with a 169.00 Buy it now. I wish that is the way things worked in my house.
