Whoa! When it rains it pours! There are some nice lamps in this collection and a few "Undocumented". I do not who this collection belongs to. You would think that I would considering the auction house is not too far from my former home in Virginia. Following is a link to a search for "Fairy Lamp" that should list all of the ones being offered.

OT: After you get through reviewing the collection, check out some new born Elk my neighbor saw in in yard this morning. Just one of the many pleasures of living in Colorado. No fairy lamps...but lots of wildlife.

I think that this lamp

is an R-703 with a missing middle tier, and a different cup.

I also think that if this lamp goes for their $100.00 – $200.00 estimate, someone is going to get a deal.

Fairy lamps on eBay Empty Yellow Puffy Lamp

Post by pollie Sun Jun 22, 2008 11:13 pm

Hi, I've been checking out the prices on the Julia Auction tonight. Some were
truly astonishing. I was never able to find the amount the yellow puffy lamp you
mentioned went for. I have "lost" it somehow--do you remember what it was? So
many lamps for sale in the two big auctions just tears me up. I want way too
many of them! Save the fairy lamps, Pollie

The yellow puffy is in the auction this weekend 6.29.08 But they have a very low estimate on it. I only got a couple of the lamps I wanted at the Julia Auction, but some is still better than none. Keep up the fight.

I did a quick count of the fairy lamps sold at the James Julia Auction and it looks lilke 20 lamps sold over estimate, 22 sold within estimate, and 37 sold below estimate. I got two of the lamps through ebay. I would rather have been there in person. The advantage is to inspect the lamps, pay less buyer's premium and take them home right there. It will be interesting to see how much it costs me for shipping and how long the process will take. I also hope the condition is not different from their description. I was wondering if any members were at the auction and could tell us their experience and also if those of you who got lamps from this auction and were not there bought them through ebay or bought them through absentee bid. I've had limited success with absentee bid in other auctions, so tried ebay this time. I also wonder how many of the fairy lamps went to Fairy Lamp Club members. Anybody know? Genene

Its not so much what sold above, at or below reserve, but the prices. Most (all but about 5) of the lamps sold below book value by almost half. Several years ago you could not buy a Burmese shade and cup for $500.00. The shade alone would almost bring that. I don't think that the collectability of the lamps is going down, but just everyone is tighter with what they have. Of course the $2200.00 wee lamp #672 and the blue and white pedestal for $2750.00 #729 seem to go against that idea. Being the under bidder on #729 I am shocked that I didn't get it for the bid I left with Julia. I put in a bid I was sure to win it. I guess that someone else on the floor wanted it more.
I can't wait to get my "new" lamps. One of the lamps I won I have tried to find for 12 years. I guess it true that good things come to those who wait.
Most of the lamps I had in the auction sold in the range, but again this was below book (Only two sold at book value). Even the auction house told me that the price for the lamps was going to be down which is why the values were set where they were.
With the prices falling, I wonder what will be placed in Julias November auction.

For the longest time the lamp shown in the photo below was giving me fits. First of all the decoration looked like I have seen it before, but could not place it. The next thing that made me think was the rounded nature of the base. Most lamps that were designed to sit on a surface have either a foot or a squared off base to prevent tipping. Then it hit me, this is the center cup for R-514 with the three matching bud vases. Now I can sleep at night.

Talk about timeing. Did anyone notice that one of the candle cups with the hole in the bottom is in this auction also? It is the same cup as shown in the last newsletter on page 11. The cup is from the "Fire Fly" with the turned down skirt.
