Doulton Fairy Lamp Base - R-521

Post by Admin on Mon Sep 08, 2008 9:16 am

This Doulton fairy lamp base continues to hold its value. A same base, with a different decoration, sold for nearly the same amount (within $13) in 2003. So far, we have seen at least three with differnt decorations. (Are there others? - I feel an article coming on.) It would be nice to document the markings on each base an figure out the meaning of each.

Doulton Lambeth Base

Post by xmaslights on Mon Sep 15, 2008 1:50 pm

Hi Jim,

It was my good fortune to be the seller of this item. I found it in a box lot with three other pieces of total trash in an auction here in Sweden. No one had a clue as to what it was. In fact, the auctioneer thought that I was crazy to drive nearly three hours to collect my winning box in person. At the risk of insulting the buyer in the event that he reads this, I will not disclose my winning bid. However, I will say that the gasoline for the six hour round trip cost alot more than the lamp.

You earned the profit you made on the sale, no apologies for purchase price are necessary. Rescuing a valuable fairy lamp piece is commendable. I wonder how many other fairy lamps or parts are thrown out in a box of trash and not discovered and rescued, and therefore lost.

David,

I love stories like this!! Like Genden70 said, no apologies are necessary. I know someone was very happy to get the base. The fact that you made a very good profit.....I say, good for you!. I hope you find other threasures like this for the rest of us.
