James Julia Auction Results
Some of the prices amazed me at today’s James Julia auction.
The first was item number 2055 (R-300) with a raspberry shade. Even with the small chip to the base, the $250.00 I think was a deal.
The next was item 2056 (R-517 sim.) with wear to the gold gilt and a Burmese shade for $350.00. I say this lamp is similar as the flame at the tip and the handle are not as well defined as the example in the book.
The other one was item 2049 (R-720). The hammer price of $450.00 was unbelievable cheap. In the past, I have seen one Burmese shade sell for this much in the past, let alone two shades and the crystal standard. I should have stepped up to the plate and bid higher on that one.
I guess that several people are worried that one or two of their stocks have dropped off a little bit over the last year, and they just would rather hold on to what they still have.

Yes, I agree there seemed to be some good buys at the auction. Of course, a good buy is in the eye of the beholder and if you don't look at your 401k too often.
Following is a link to all the fairy lamp results. It is interesting to compared the final bid price to the estimate.
I wish there were some good auctions near Denver. I can't afford to buy but, I enjoy watching others grow their collections.

Though there were some good fairy lamp buys at the auction, I thought it was a mixed bag. Unfortunately, the two lamps I wanted went for a lot more than I expected. Add the 22% plus shipping and it made them out of my range. I guess what mattered was who else wanted the same lamp. Just got the newsletter. Thanks for all your work, Jim.
