WEBB BURMESE WITH JULES BARBE ENAMELED DECORATION WITH BEE
I know that on the Club web page we are looking at several unknown painted pieces and trying to match with the known list of names, but here is another to add I believe. I have not seen this design before. Maybe you have and can help me out. The item is a vase and the description reads as follows:
Beautiful example of Thomas Webb's BURMESE GLASS. A 6 1/2" RUFFLED TOP vase with a GLOSSY FINISH. Normal WEBB GROUND PONTIL. BEAUTIFUL SHADING on this piece. ENAMELED Jules Barbe design. PLEASE advise if you know the name of this pattern. BEES on the front and back. This piece in my collection for over 30 years.
The item number is: 251045394326

Re: WEBB BURMESE WITH JULES BARBE ENAMELED DECORATION WITH BEE
Really nice piece!! However, I believe it is Mount Washington and not Webb. The decoration name is unknown to me but I am still looking for similar designs.
There is a similar design showing the a butterfly and fly on a MW Burmese cup with a similar "grasses" design. While not the same as the eBay example, it does illustrate a similar painting technique which is different than Webb/Barbe. (Wilson book, page 192)
The "Celery vase" shape is shown undecorated on page 169 in the Sisk MW book.
That said, there is a "Grasses" name in the Barbe list of designs that we have no examples for. I keep looking for additional information.
