New to Fairy Lamps
Well, I don't know much about these little lamps. Other than I love old glass and came across these by mistake searching for old ink bottles! I have collected ink bottles for years, and prior to that I spent years collecting US Stamps and anything that was Underwood Typewriters (machines, ribbon tins, postcards, cleaning brushes etc.). I love to collect mostly small things that won't take up so much room. That does not count my really large Underwood Typewriters.
Two years ago my husband was transferred from Arlington, TX to St. Louis, MO and we went from a new home we built in 2004 to an 1850 Italianate. I have been working hard on stripping wallpaper, painting, caulking, repairing plaster, etc. etc. However, things are starting to look much better so I am now taking time for my hobbies of collecting.
So in a search for more ink bottles I came across something called Christmas Fairy Lights. I have researched these a little and find that there are probably many fakes on the market. I find them facinating and love what they look like on the window sill of a persons web page (Jennrog Collectables). All the windows in this house are 8 foot tall with really deep sashes. So, I have a place in the second floor hall where the north facing window would be beautiful to line some of these on the sash.
I came across some in the UK that were marked with Harrod's on the base and wonder if anyone can tell me if they would be vintage or replicas? I already bought them knowing that they may or may not be vintage, but they were so pretty I did not want to pass them up.
I look foward to learning more about these lovely lamps and starting to collect them when I know what I am doing! But for now I am happy with what I have started with and hope you guys will lead me in the right direction in my search for the right lamps for my home.
Looking forward to great discussions,
PJ (pjotf = me and my webpage of Old Things Forgotten)
